Hike Wasserleitungsweg, Part Two
(Mödling to Vöslau, Lower Austria)

Date: Sunday 19 October 2003

Suggested by: Peter Levenitschnig

Description:
A leisurely nearly flat walk through the vineyards between Mödling and Vöslau.
The route is halfway between the valley and the mountains, partly directly above the 1. Wiener Hochquellenwasserleitung (long-distance water pipeline for Vienna), with constant views around. Nice villages on the way (Thallern, Gumpoldskirchen). If we are lucky the wine leaves should be in full autumn colours at that time.

Route:
Mödling - Gumpoldskirchen - Baden - Bad Vöslau.
Starting and ending points have public traffic connections, so we can return by train from Bad Vöslau (or earlier at another station if somebody wishes to do so). There is no need to come by car (see below: "Heuriger").
VARIANT: We could already finish in Baden and have a look at the city (nice old Biedermeier houses).

Meeting point and time:
Mödling railway station, outside, side facing the park, 10:00 a.m.
Ending point and time:
Vöslau railway station, time dependent what we are going to do after our walk ...

Length of activity, grade of difficulty:
Appr. 4 hours, 16 km (or less, if we finish already in Baden).
Easy walk, nearly level, absolutely not dangerous (but beware of the wine ...), also suitable for children and dogs.

Eating and drinking:
I propose to bring along some snacks and enough drinks, so we are flexible in our planning: If the weather is nice, warm and sunny, we could have a picknick outside at about noon and go for a "Jause" in Baden or Vöslau (or to an early "Heurigen").
If the weather is not so nice and cold, we could have lunch somewhere in between or after our trip.

Public transport:
Wien-Südbahnhof (train) to Mödling: 9:38 > 9:57 a.m.
Wien-Südtirolerplatz (Schnellbahn) to Mödling: 9:31 > 9:55 a.m.

Equipment:
Usual hiking gear and some snacks and drinks.

If the weather report is bad, please inquire on Saturday if the trip will take place! (0699 135 16 232)
