Date:

9th August 2003, meeting time Puchberg am Schneeberg train station 8.19 a.m (arrival time of the train), the rack-railway leaves at 8.25 hours – therefore it is necessary that everyone is very punctual.

Description:

Travers with the use of the Salamander rack-railway from Puchberg to hotel Hochschneeberg, walk to Hochschneeberg (Klosterwappen), down across Schauerstein and Almgatterl to Almreserl house, chairlift to Losenheim, bus to Puchberg, easy to medium difficult hike, total walking time abt. 5 hours, difference in elevation 300 m up and  850 m down.

More about the Cog Wheel Trains: www.schneebergbahn.at and

The “Schneeberg-Rundwanderticket” includes one-way Salamander train, one-way chair lift, the bus from Losenheim to Puchberg and a voucher for Euro 8,-- for consumption in one of the huts we pass. The ticket costs Euro 27,-- for adults. For children the ticket does not include the Euro 8,-- voucher and costs Euro 11,--.

(For your information single tickets for the rack-railway would be Euro 19,-- and  Euro 5,-- for the chair lift, the price for the bus I could not find out). It is absolutely necessary to reserve the Salamander train as usually it is very busy.

By car: A2 Südautobahn, exit Wiener Neustadt West to B26 to Puchberg am Schneeberg, abt. two hours drive from Vienna.

Train connection:

6.57 from Wien Südbahnhof, one has to change trains in Wr. Neustadt, arrival in Puchberg 8.19. Tickets for adults two ways Euro 22,40.

Sign-up:

During the meeting on July 3rd – Fritz will be there to do it, unfortunately I cannot make it because of work.

In this case we will collect the money for the tickets (see above) already during the meeting, because I have to be at the Puchberg train station half an hour earlier to get the reserved tickets and if someone does not show-up I won’t get the money back.

If someone prefers only to have only the Salamander train reserved and pay for the bus and chairlift themselves on the spot please pay Euro 19,-- for the rack railway.

In case the trip cannot take place because of bad wheather I will send you the money back if you give me a bank account number or give it back to you during the August meeting as by then we should know the wheather forecast.

Equipment:

Usual hiking equipment e.g. hiking boots, raincoat, pullover, drinking bottle, snacks if you like, sun cream, sun glasses, cap or hat. Please consider that we will go into high alpine areas where changes of wheather and fall of temperature might occur very suddenly.
