Longer, scenic point-to-point winter trek from Payerbach to Puchberg am Schneeberg across Lower Austria's largest mountain pasture - the massive Bodenwiese.
This is a Bring Your Own Glühwein (BYOG) event! Pack your favorite homemade mulled wine, punch, or hot tea in a good thermos, along with some snacks. We will gather right in the middle of the wide-open mountain plateau for a panoramic group outdoor winter picnic under the Schneeberg massif.
After completing the hike, we will finish our day directly at the traditional lakeside PuchBerg Advent Market in the town center to enjoy the festive village atmosphere, open fire pits, and local food stalls.
As for lunch break, we can optionally take a quick 15-minute uphill detour to the Hengsthütte. It is open for a special winter Advent weekend serving hot wood-fired pork roast and dumplings indoors, with a traditional Krampus visit in the afternoon!. Note: This adds about 30 mins of total walking time and ideally a sit-down break,so we can also skip the hut detour entirely and push straight down into the valley to maximize our time at the lakeside Christmas market. We will decide on the spot, depending on the group pace, preference and timing.
Participants must be fit and ready for true winter conditions - the plateau and descents will likely be covered in packed snow and ice. Therefore, grödels/microspikes might be needed, I will inform the participants in advance.
The event will take place only in good weather conditions. It can be also shifted to other day, or canceled.
Note: no AV membership is required for this event.
