Description :

Another attempt of the hike I had to cancel in March due to bad weather...

From Payerbach Reichenau, we follow the scenic Semmeringbahn walking path for a few hours to the old pilgrim's church of Maria Schutz from where we face a steep climb up the Sonnwendstein. We descend to Semmering village with its grand fin-de siecle style hotels and villas and catch the train back to Vienna from there.

Technical requirements :
T2, Rough areas, broken rocks and boulder fields are not a problem for me. I am sure-footed and free of dizziness
Physical requirements :
K2, 4-7 hours / day; up and down
Duration in hours and
elevation gain :
5 - 6 hours walking time, about 800m elevation gain
Max. altitude in metres :

Equipment :
sturdy hiking boots, waterproofs.
Transport Details :

We take the train from Wien Suedbahnhof/ Bahnhof Meidling to Payerbach Reichenau (alternatively, meet at Payebach Reichenau station, if you travel by car). We return to Vienna from Semmering by train at the end of the hike (people travelling by car can catcht the train back to Payerbach, but need to carefully check the train times first, as they don't run at very frequent intervals. Most trains go directly to Wiener Neustadt, and won't stop at Payerbach)

10
