Description :

Unfortunatelly the hut is booked for both dates under consideration.

General idea

Me, Sara and Josh plan to go climbing around the Karlsbader Hutte in Lienzer Dolomiten. From our perspective the location provides easy (starting at UIAA III/IV) but still well bolted multipitch climbing routes ending on proper peaks with very short approaches. A combination which is not that easy to find. If you aim for higher climbing grades, you will not be dissapointed. The Roter Turm offers routes up to UIAA XI (if I remember correctly some climbing movie was shot there). There is also a klettergarten offering single pitch routes. And if you are not up for climbing but a ferrata fun, there are a few nice ones as well (Laserz - Klettersteig combined with the Panorama Klettersteig is a great classic, the Seekofel Klettersteig isn't bad either).

I believe it would be fun to go in a larger group but here an important remark comes: we aim for climbing so I can't guarantee you any guiding (just funny conversations while drinking beer in the evening). If you want to join, you must be able to do whatever you aim for on your own (well, probably in pairs/triples but you got the message, right?). Of course we can switch climbing partners or decide to do a ferrata all together or you can convince me to become your climbing partner (all in all Sara and Josh do not need me as a third) but you can not depend on that.

Logistics

We are considering two dates:

  • 19th-22nd of June. It matches our schedules better and 19th is a public holiday but there is a risk of snow leftovers (which is quite a no-go for climbing).
  • 28th-30th of June as a fallback date if we need to wait until the snow melts.

As it's Austria the huts get booked rather early but the Karlsbader Hutte has a very relaxed cancellation policy (full refund up to 4 days before the arrival). Therefore my evil plan is to make a reservation for both periods and then cancel one of them when snow conditions are known. If this plan works for you and you register by the end of February, I can manage hut reservation for you as well. If not, then I will kindly ask you to  to manage hut reservations on your own.
