One of the top klettersteige in Austria makes a challenging one day trip from Vienna. The klettersteig (D) climbs a spectacular and very varied wall of Seeamauer for 770m (!) and requires good stamina and experience but rewards with stunning views of Leopoldsteinersee and mountains around Eisenerz. This hike is for well-trained experienced klettersteig lovers. The way down is also not easy as it is steep and exposed and requires good concentration.
To join this trip I must know you and/or you need to provide evidence of doing D klettersteig in 2023.
We will start early morning in a car from Vienna and park at Leopoldsteinersee. The aproach to the klettersteig is fast, max 20min. Technically most difficult sections are at the very begining, followed by an emergency exit. The route is exposed (and very beautiful) and we reach the end at about 1hr below the summit of Hochblaser. This topo is a bit old, there also in an alternative starting D pitch now: https://www.bergsteigen.com/fileadmin/userdaten/tour/topo/7706/kaiser-franz-joseph-klettersteig-rosslochhoehlen-topo-seemauer.pdf
If we are motivated and not too tired we can go to the summit or do one more, very challenging klettersteig through a cave close to the summit, see the top right sketch of the topo in the previous link.
The way down is not to be underestimated and I highly recommend taking hiking poles to manage it as it has unpleasant gravel and is exposed and steep (there were some fatal injuries on it in not so distant past).
The wall is south facing so you'll need to take enough water and snacks.
This hike is only possible in stable weather. In case of bad weather the hike will be cancelled.
