Hochwildstelle is the second highest peak of Niedere Tauern and the highest summit inside Styria (Dachstein and Hochgoling are shared with another Land). It is an impressive mountain and a rewarding climb for experienced mountaineers. And for a long time my dream but the weather never played along, so let's try again.
The hike up the Suedgrat is strenuous and requires scrambling through exposed terrain and is partly secured (B/C via ferrata). You must have good stamina and be free of fear of hights – ideally I know you or you need to prove you did similar hikes ideally this summer.
Day 1: Arrival to Riesach parking, hike to Preintaler huette, break and if good weather hike to Klaferkessel or to Sonntagskar
Day 2: Hochwildstelle through Suedgrat (and if good conditions and weather also a traverse). In case of not ideal weather either of the hikes we would not do the previous day or traverse to Steierische Bodensee.
We will sleep on Saturday in Preintaler huette (only dormitory available to reserve, 14euro per night) and I will ask you for 10euro deposit to confirm your registration. The group of 6 hikers with sufficient experience is maximum for this event.
Public transport is possible, it would give us a nice option to cross to Steirische Bodensee and get a transport to Vienna from there. I can consider transport by car if everyone agrees to share the costs for the parking at Riesach parking (was 12e per day per car last year).
Feel free to contact me through "Contact the organizer" if you have any questions.
