C Ferrata in Styria (new date) on 28 May 2023

The plan is to do a C ferrata (difficult with long exposed passages, not suitable for beginners. You must have previous experience with via ferratas and be able to deal with steep terrain and exposure).

The preferred option is Spielmäuern, which is close to Niederalpl (1:45h drive from Vienna). There are two via ferratas, Olivers Mariazeller Steig (B/C) and Tristans Kirchbogensteig (C). Depending on the fitness level of the group we can do only one or both. The approach takes about 30 minutes, one ferrata around 1 – 1.5 h (200 vertical meters).

At the moment the Spielmäuern ferratas are closed due to maintenance. If they do not reopen before the 13th of May, then instead we drive to the Riegesburg castle, which offers an interesting C ferrata (takes about 1 hour):

On the way back from Riegesburg there is the option to do the Pittentalersteig, which is a short (100 vertical meters) but very exposed C ferrata:
