Scenic 20km hike through the Wienerwald backyards. This hike is long but not technically difficut and is intended for hikers with good stamina as we need to go up and down multiple times.
After a scenic ride on a bus through Helenental we'll get off at Mayerling, a lovely tiny cluster of houses around Habsburg Jagdschloss. First we walk towards the lookout point at Bischofsmuetze. From there we walk towards Eisernes Tor at Hoher Lindkogel (835m, the higest point of the hike), where we stop for lunch (assuming we arrive at cca 1pm). We'll hopefully enjoy some nice views of Schneeberg and Wienerwald on the way. From Lindkogel we take a trail south to Merkenstein castle and castle ruin where we can take a break before walking again a bit uphill before the final descend to a lovely town of Berndorf. Depending on time and mood we can stop for tea and cake or early dinner in Berndorf and take a train back to Vienna.
The route will be something like this (will slightly differ as we take some not marked trails): https://en.mapy.cz/turisticka?planovani-trasy&x=16.1084415&y=47.9932551&z=13&rc=9kob5x6QjugbCx6F-DlI.fZXc8jxNn6Q&rs=osm&rs=osm&rs=osm&rs=osm&ri=1095859733&ri=1018293688&ri=6713395&ri=1018293518&mrp=%7B%22c%22%3A132%7D&xc=%5B%5D
