Back in the spring of 2016, one of our members back then, Ann Hartell, organised a gentle hike in the woods near Vienna, with the comment that we will collect some Bärlauch* along the way. In the meantime, this has become a bit of a tradition in the club, that we have followed most years since then (until a certain virus spoiled things two years ago).
But looking on the bright side, this year it looks like the virus shouldn't stop us holding the event - all we need to hope for now is that there is still some Bärlauch around this weekend (I already saw the first leaves sprouting in late February), and that the weather is good!
The route will be decided nearer the time, but it will be a simple hike within easy reach of Vienna, on public transport. There will also be a restaurant or hut stop somewhere along the way.
This hike is also open to non-members.
*In case anyone doesn't know, Bärlauch is translated as "Bear's garlic" in English, and is a herb that turns the forest floors in some areas green in the spring, and has a very strong smell of garlic. And it tastes very good in soups, with pasta and all sorts of other delicious dishes!
