Note 6.1.2022: Should there be insufficient snow for the outdoor day on the 15th Jan, it will be rescheduled to the 22nd Jan. The theory evening will take place as planned on the 13th Jan.

"Recognize and Avoid Avalanches"

For Ski mountaineers - Snowboarders - Snowshoe hikers

In this course, you will learn the basics of modern avalanche theory developed by Werner Munter ("3x3") and used as the basis for the Alpenverein system "Stop or Go". The theory of basic avalanche awareness and risk-management (i.e. standard operating procedures) to utilize while planning and touring will be presented on Thursday 13th January at 18.30 and again on the scheduled day in the mountains.

Note: Requirements: ST2, K1-2, some experience in ski mountaineering or snowshoeing, interest in improving independent and self-assured actions

Until the 10th December only active members of the Alpine Club Vienna may register for this course. After this date, if there are still places available, registrations will be opened to other Alpenverein members.

A second course may be offered on the Sunday 16th Jan, if there are too many registered participants for the Saturday. This will be discussed with the participants, if this situation should arise.

Technical requirements :
T2, Rough areas, broken rocks and boulder fields are not a problem for me. I am sure-footed and free of dizziness
