Grimming is the highest free-standing mountain in the Alps, and very popular, because of its relatively easy climbing routes. However, the climbing via the south eastern ridge is challenging and with a maximum difficulty of 2+, although most of it is just simple hiking, or 1, 1+, therefore this event is suitable for people that I know and that are able to endure this demanding excercise.
On Saturday we drive to Trautenfels and hike to the Grimming hut in approximately 1 hour. Optionally, before the hike to the hut, we can also visit Grundlsee which is in some 30 minutes drive from Trautenfels.
After the overnight stay at the hut, we will climb to the top via the Südost Grat, and descend via the Multereck. From the top there are great views to Totes Gebirge and Niedere Tauern.
Current pandemic rules will apply, as announced at the club website: https://www.alpineclubvienna.org/ (subject to change, so the event can be canceled on short notice, or extra limitations imposed). Also, the event organization depends on the weather conditions.
