Mountain bike trip from Eggenburg to Retz on 11 June 2020

A 40- to 54-km long (depending on the option - see below the links to maps of two alternatives) MTB loop from Eggenburg to Retz (Weinviertel). The longer route is in fact a loop around Retz, our destination, and so we can easily decide whether we want to extend our trip or not. There should not be any technically difficult passages and, while a mountain bike is recommended, you should be able to finish the route on a trekking bike as well. Bike fitness (good 4-5 hours on the saddle) and the ability to cycle up- and downhill on non-asphalt paths is required.

Eggenburg and Retz are lovely little towns, where it should be possible to have a cafe, ice-cream and/ or lunch (I will check just before the trip what will be open on a bank holiday).

By train: Wien-Eggenburg (1h 5 min), Retz-Wien (1h 15 min); trains run every hour from/to Wien Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof. We will probably catch the 8:28 REX train which should bring us at 9:33 to Eggenburg.

Cost: we will use the Einfach-Raus-Ticket which, depending on the number of bikers, will cost between 12 (one ticket for five people) and 22 EUR (one ticket for two people) per person-bike.
