Popular bike tour along Danube river and National Park Donau-Auen (round tour in the park). Total trip is ~40 km. There is an option for people that do not want to make the whole route to join at some later point, for example, at the entrance of the park - if that is the case please specify it in the note during the registration.
Alpenverein membership is not required to join the event.
Schedule: From Vienna we go by train to Klosterneuburg and in the first part we bike to Handelskai and then pass by the seven Viennese bridges over Danube: Nordbrücke, Nordsteg, Floridsdorfer Brücke, Brigittenauer Brücke, Reichsbrücke, Donaustadtbrücke and Praterbrücke. The trail continues to Raffineriestraße, and the entrance of Donau-Auen national park, where we will have opportunity to enjoy in the diverse forests and landscapes of the park. In the first kilometers there is an option to visit two museums - Lobaumuseum and the Aspern Museum. A brief deviation from the bike path can bring us to "Lion of Aspern" - a war memorial designed to commemorate the Battle of Aspern. The Lobau was the site of the Battle of Aspern-Essling in 1809, the first major defeat suffered by Napoleon. Before the said battle, he assembled his army of 75,000 troops in the Lobau. Napoleon memorial stones are placed at prominent places and can be visited during the bike tour. After the return to the starting point (the entrance of the park) is of course the opportunity to stop in the "Roter Hiasl" guest house.
