"Die Dachstein-Hüttenrunde" is a popular multi-day hut-to-hut hike around the Dachstein Glacier. As the name suggests, the glacier lies over the Dachstein massif located itself at the border of Styria (Steiermark) and Upper Austria (Oberösterreich), and is surrounded by such peaks as Hoher Dachstein (2995m), Torstein (2947m), Hohes Kreuz (2837m), Hoher Gjaidstein (2792m) etc.
The plan of the hike is roughly as follows. We start in Vienna on Wednesday 14th August afternoon and get by train or car to the Austriahütte at the base of the Dachsteinsüdwand, where we spend the first night. Then, the hike will consist of the following 4 phases:
- Thu 15th August: Austriahütte → Adamekhütte
- Fri 16th August: Adamekhütte → Simonyhütte
- Sat 17th August: Simonyhütte → Guttenberghaus
- Sun 18th August: Guttenberghaus → Austriahütte
However, on August 18th we do not plan to sleep in the Austriahütte, but instead return on the same day directly to Vienna. Note that the 15th August is a holiday (the Assumption Day), so probably you have to ask your boss for a leave only on Friday 16th August :-)

During the hike we will NOT step onto the glacier, so we don't need any skilled local mountain guide! We will only wander around the glacier along official and marked routes.
As the beginning of the hike is already quite close, the huts are quite full now and only places on mattresses are left (please take it into consideration and don't be disappointed when you don't get any proper bed!). All huts charge 10 EUR for the reservation of the place, thus upon the registration to the hike you will get an e-mail with the bank account data and you will have to transfer 40 EUR (10 EUR / hut). The rest of the payment will be charged in the huts (around 12-20 EUR / hut).
It may happen that any of the huts will get completely full already next week, before the end of the registration period. In this case the trip will be probably cancelled and the reservations charges returned to the participants.
Note that the deadline for the registration is Thursday 13th June. This is so early because of the occupancy of the huts. So please be quick!!! :-)
