This is a public transport hike for a small group of 6 people. I have reserved 6 beds in one room at the Lurgbauerhuette on Schneeberg.
Only the Zahmes Gamseck up to the Heukuppe of the Rax would qualify as a K3, the rest is a K2 hike.
First day (Saturday):
Ascent to Michelbauerhuette on the Schneealpe either from Neuberg an der Muerz or from Hinternasswald plus afternoon hike on the plateau of the Schneealpe (ca. 4 -6 hours - highest peak: Windberg 1900m).
Second Day (Sunday):
via Nasskamm und Zahmes Gamseck (or: possibly via Schutzsteig - longer 'non-Klettersteig) alternative. The Zahme Gamseck is a Klettersteig A/B with ropes in places and a ladder. The path is also exposed in some places; I haven't hiked it yet, but have made enquiries & done some research about it - it sounds feasible, even if you are not a passionate 'ferrata'-type but quite happy with some alpine hiking/ terrain 9like myself). Alternatively, & depending on the weather, we can also hike the 'Schutzsteig' instead. This is a longer, lower route, without Klettersteig challenges. Both routes will take us up the Rax Plateau (Heukuppe). We'll descend to Preiner Gescheid from there & catch the bus back to Payerback Reichenau. The Karl-Ludwig Huette is on our route that day, but this will be quite late in our hike, so bring enough snacks!
The hike will only take place if the forecast is good for both days. If the weather looks fine on one of the weekends only, I'll change the hike to a 'one-dayer' up the Weichtalklamm to the top of Schneeberg or along the Noerdl. Grafensteig.
No Huettenschlafsack required, bedding provided.
A bed in a 4-or 6-bed-room with breakfast costs 40 Euros per person ('Biobauernhof', therefore slightly costlier.)
The total cost for public transport will amount to about 30 - 40 Euros (with Oebb Vorteilscard).
