This course is designed to teach you the necessary skills to care for an injured or ill person in a mountain situation where professional help is not immediately available.
Situations might include lightning strikes, the onset of altitude illness, or a serious injury late in the day when a helicopter could no longer fly because of impending darkness, or the inability to contact emergency services by mobile phone. And of course all these skills are also applicable in an urban situation.
The course will be divided into two main sessions:
Indoor: the first part will be the presentation on Wednesday evening (20th June) and will cover what your first aid kit should include, treatments for injuries where there is a loss of blood, injuries where no loss of blood occurs and finally treatment for persons suffering from cardiac problems.
Outdoor (mountainous region near Vienna, will be announced on the Wednesday meeting): The practical session will be outside where techniques covering all the topics discussed on Thursday will be demonstrated and then practiced by the participants. In case of bad weather on the Sunday, the course will also take place in the Alpenverein building in the Rotenturmstrasse.
