Winter practice in Rax on 07 January 2018

Safe hiking in winter requires skills and skills require practice.

The aim of this hike is to practice:

• using a beacon and an avalanche rescue action organisation
• using an ice axe

If there'll be people with some rock&ice experience, we can also practice things like stopping a group tied with a rope when someone slips, creating belaying points in snow, etc.

To do so, we'll go on a hike from the Rax Seilbahn upper station to the Neu Seehutte and back. During the hike we'll for sure pass nice places for practicing.

To make the hike accessible and save time we'll use Rax Seilbahn both up and down (24,50 EUR for AV members).

Remarks:

• It's not a course. If you don't have experience in winter hikes, please sign up for AV courses (avalanche rescue, avalanche awareness, rock & ice).
• There's a pure-snowhoe hike organized by James at the same day and place - we'll try to sync both (e.g. to start or end both hikes together).

The car will be the most convenient (I can take up to 3 persons).

To take the first cable car on 9:00 we should leave Vienna around 7:30.

If someone prefers public transport, there is a railroad connection to Payerbach but in winter there is almost no bus connections from Payerbach to the cable car station (~6 km).
