Hiking in High Tatras

Description:             (Chata = Hut)
Because of capacity problems at Slovak huts, this trip is limited to eight people only, so in order to avoid telling people, that the capacity is full, I am going to limit the description to one sentence: "This trip is gonna be GORGEOUS :)))"

Friday

• Meeting at Wien Suedbahnhof at 22:15
• Train: Vienna(22:28) - Bratislava(23:25)

Saturday - total hiking time (7h35m)

• Overnight train: Bratislava(0:10) - Poprad(4:47)
• Bus: Poprad(5:30) - Tatranska Lomnica Biela Voda(6:08)

• Biela Voda - Chata pri zelenom plese (3h00m)

• Snack + crazy stories of what happen here this winter(9:15-10:00)

• Chata pri zelenom plese - Skalnaté pleso (2h45m)

• Lunch + nice view of Lomnický Štít (2nd highest mountain in Slovakia) (12:45-14:00)

• Skalnaté pleso - Zámkovského chata (0h50m)

• Accomodation at Zámkovského chata 1475 m.(15:00) - 20/28 Euro (without/with half-penzion) - maybe have discount for OeAV

Sunday - total hiking time (5h00m)

• Breakfast (7:00-9:00)

• Zámkovského chata - Terryho chata (2h00m)

• Lunch + one sad story (11:00-12:00)

• Terryho chata - Zbojnická chata (3h00m)

• Accomodation at Zbojnická chata 1960 m.(15:00) - 13/19 Euro (without/with half-penzion) for OeAV members.

Monday - total hiking time (5h30m)

• Breakfast (7:00-9:00)
• Zbojnická chata - Polskij Hreben (2h00m)

• Short break with view of Gerlachovsky Štít - highest mountain of Slovakia (11:00-11:30)

• Polskij Hreben - Slezkij Dom (1h30m)

• Lunch at most expensive hut in Slovakia, but do not worry meals here are similar price to huts in Austria (13:00-14:00)

• Slezký Dom - Starý Smokovec (2h00m)

• Trip recapitulation + dinner + some beer (16:00-18:00)

• Bus: Starý Smokovec(18:06) - Poprad(18:25) (or there is train earlier)
• Train: Poprad(18:47) - Bratislava(22:40)
• Train: Bratislava(23:00) - Wien Suedbahnhof(23:58)

Driving Instructions:
Driving is generally not recommended, since you can not take advantage of over-night train - if three days are too much for you - it is possible to drive to Stary Smokovec and take funicular to Hrebienok, which is just 20 minutes away from Zámkovského chata.

Recommended Equipment:
Standard high-mountain hiking equipment; Lugged-sole mountain boots,  + especially good protection against rain, which is common in High Tatras.

Reservation:
Slovak huts have a very limited amount of beds - so reservation two or three months in advance is necessary. I am going to reserve 8 places (including me) for this trip. These places will be passed on first come - first serve basis after advance payment of 10 Euro.
