Fourth Annual
"Starlite—Starbrite" Hike
A hike not far from Vienna in the "Rohrwald" forest
continuing after sunset on a moonless night with the prospect of seeing millions
of stars.
Saturday - March 12, 2005
Organized by: Jack and Evelyn Curtin
Meeting Point:
parking area in Haselbach on road toward Gasthaus
am Michelberg.
See below.
Meeting time:
2:15pm ( that’s right 14:15 )
Description:
W2 - Easy. Hiking 5 hours. (Restaurant:: about 1½ – 2
hours.).
The hike begins in a forest area but soon opens onto a high meadow with good
views of Schloss Kreuzenstein, the Bisamberg, Kahlenberg, and Vienna off in
the distance. Then back into the woods along a nice trail until we get to the
award winning restaurant Goldenes Bründl. After everyone is full and the
sun has set (officially 17:53) about 6:30 or so, we head off back into the
woods. Shortly we arrive at open meadows where hopefully many stars will be
visible. Near the end of the trip, we reach a church on the Michelberg at 404
meters with a wide open view of the heavens and surrounding area. After a short
time there, we head back down to our cars and back home.
