A hike beginning through a gorge and exiting onto a nice rolling landscape. It continues after sunset on a moonless night with the prospect of seeing millions of stars without the light and haze pollution of the cities.

Meeting Point: Parking lot of Gauermann Museum in the village of SCHEUCHENSTEIN
Meeting time: 1pm ( that’s right 13:00 )
Particulars: W2 - Easy to moderate. Hiking trip 6 hours. 10 km. (Sightseeing & eating in Scheuchenstein about another 1.5 – 2 hours.)
Description: First a visit to the museum and church in Scheuchenstein and then begin the hike through a beautiful little gorge (Klamm). Continue toward Auf der Höh and then to Frohberg with a stop at Gasthof Eder. Nice views of Schneeberg and Hohe Wand. After total darkness, continue back to parking area in Scheuchenstein.
Car connections: Wien – Südautobahn south to exit 38 Wöllersdorf. Turn RIGHT onto B21 to Reichental. Turn LEFT. Drive about 4.6 km. Turn LEFT to Scheuchenstein. Park at museum.
Detailed description:
Part 1: Cultural events – see above.
Part 2: Begin hike about 3pm in Scheuchenstein via Klammweg through a beautiful little gorge toward Hartberg; Auf der Höh via Hartbergweg; Zellinger via Schramböckweg; to the Miesenbach road follow it north a short distance to the weg to Frohnberg and the Gasthof Eder.
Part 3: After total darkness (6:30pm or so), continue southward on Ruine-Frohnbergweg M9 to Lehabauerweg M8 to trail 231 back to the highway. Cross it and go up the Gauermannhofweg M1 back to Scheuchenstein about 9pm. The pub there is open until 10pm for those desiring some refreshment.
Equipment: There may still be snow on some parts of the hike.
Hiking shoes with lug soles.
Trekking poles - if you have some, bring them.
Flashlight or headlamp.
Extra pullover or fleece jacket. The temperature will drop several degrees after dark!
Stocking cap and warm gloves.
Extra warm clothing for after dark is a must. Watch the weather broadcast on TV to see the difference between day and night temperatures.
