Oberösterreichische Voralpen (near Gmunden and Traunsee)

(The actual trip is done in one day on Sunday. But since coming by car
from Vienna takes at least 3 hours, starting in Vienna on Saturday and staying
overnight somewhere near in/around Gmunden is more comfortable.)
Meeting and ending point:
Parking place beside Traunstein near Gmunden.
At east bank of Traunsee, near the end of the street,
shortly after ship station (Hois’n).
Meeting and ending time:
Meeting time 8.00 a.m., ending time not later than 6.00
p.m.
Summit: Traunstein (1691 m)
Hut: Gmundner Hütte (ÖAV), 1661 m
Klettersteige: Naturfreundesteig (up), Hans-Hernler-Steig
(down).
Difference in elevation: 1.250 m
Difficulty: Klettersteig A/B (easy to intermediate), Some parts
are very steep, shure-footedness etc. required. Klettersteig gear absolutely
necessary!
Duration: 4 hours up, 2-3 hours downhill.
Description of trip: Beautiful Klettersteige located directly beside Traunsee.
Great views to Traunsee, Dachstein, Salzkammergut.
Equipment needed:
In addition to the normal alpine gear full Klettersteig
gear required! (Helmet, belt, short ropes). Gear can be rented from
Alpenverein, Sektion Austria.
Deposit € 80 (will be refunded), renting fee for 2 days
€ 3,-- appr. for members.
If fetched Friday evening and brought back Monday morning,
only the fee for 2 days will be charged. Opening hours: Friday and Monday
9am-6pm.
Swimsuit for a refreshing bath in the lake after our
trip!
Stay overnigth Saturday/Sunday:
There is sort of “hut in the valley” (Talherberge) near
Gmunden, run by ÖAV (12 Lager). So prices should be moderate for members.
Sepp-Stahrl-Talherberge, situated quite near to our meeting point, between the ship stations "Ramsau" and "Hois'n" (see map).
