Wachau/Niederösterreich)

Description:
Short trip to a little rocky summit (Hirschwand) and to a peak with "Aussichtswarte"
(observation tower) (Seekopf). Nice view to Wachau and neighbouring mountains.
Afterwards optional trip to a Heurigen or/and neat villages.
Route: Rossatz (225m) - Hirschwand via Hirschwandsteig - Seekopf (671m) - Rossatz
Length of activity, difficulty...:
Difference in elevation: appr. 450m. Way up 2 hours, way down 1 ½ hours.
Easy trail through the woods, not difficult, not dangerous, except for Klettersteig.
Klettersteig to Hirschwand: the last 30 meters, easy to medium, everybody at
his own responsibility! Summit Hirschwand is rather exposed and there is only
place for a few people! - For everybody who does not enjoy this: The nearby
Seekopf is an easy alternative.
Meeting point and ending point: Krems railway station.
Meeting time: 10.15 a.m.
Car connections:
Wien-Krems appr. 80 km. Wien - Autobahn A22, then Schnellstraße S3, exit
to the centre of Krems.
People coming by car please pick up others arriving by train, since public transport
to Rossatz is difficult to arrange.
Public Transport Connections:
Dep Wien-Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof 8.55 am, arr Krems 10.11 am,
Dep Krems: 17.50 / 19.01 / 21.01
Car sharing:
I can offer car sharing for 3-4 people. Meeting point: Heiligenstadt, outside
U4 underground station, meeting time: 9.00 am. Please contact me by phone 0676
35 16 232. Perhaps other members could offer car sharing as well if necessary?
Equipment needed:
Hiking shoes, rain jacket, drinks, snacks (we can lunch at the summit or later
at a Heurigen).
Perhaps short rope for smaller children.
Additional (optional) programme in the afternoon:
After the trip we could go to a Heurigen in Rossatz or take the ferry boat to
Weißenkirchen for seeing the village and for a Heurigen.
Other options would be visiting Dürnstein (monastery, climbing the ruins)
or Krems.
