Trip Sheet

8th Annual Gluhwein Marathon

Date:  Sunday  9th December, 2007

Suggested by:  Leila Baldwin

Description:  Romantic Advent hike inside the Johannesbachklamm. Later a visit to an Advent Market and of course Glühwein stands.

Length of activity: Depends on the thirst level of the participants.

Meeting point and ending point: 12:30 Südbahnhof ticket machines in the main hall. We will then buy the tickets as a group for a hefty reduction over the individual price. The train departs at 12:57 for Wiener Neustadt where we change trains to Rothengrub.

Meeting time:  12:30 Südbahnhof.
Ending time:  Again it depends on the thirst level of the participants, but the 19:56 train will get us back to Südbahnhof at 21:36. Earlier trains for the less hungry or thirsty.

Public Transportation: We will take the train to Rothengrub.

Driving Instructions:  The Austrian police frown upon drivers who have participated in our annual Glühwein Marathon, so take the train with the rest of us.

Car sharing:  We will all try to sit together in the train.

Recommended Equipment:  Lugged sole hiking boots and maybe gaiters (gamasch) in case there is snow on our trail. Collapsible walking sticks (can do double duty as an aid to the slightly alcohol-impaired participants). Warm clothing, hat and gloves or mittens. Look at the weather forecast for predicted temperatures; it gets much colder after sunset.

Comments: This is the Club’s social highlight of the year. It has always been a lot of fun and this year should be no exception. There will be a nice mix of hiking activity and cultural enjoyment of regional customs and culinary delights.
