Trip Sheet
Cross Country Skiing Göllerloipe, St. Ägyder Gschaid, Niederösterreich
Date:
Feb 19, 2006
Suggested by:
Peter
Description and grade of difficulty:
The cross-country trail is situated just beside Mount Göller, at the pass St. Ägyder Gschaid, at a height starting from 1.000m, fairly level into a valley and back, so it is also suitable for beginners and children. Away from traffic, nice view to mountain. If the sun is shining, it is smiling on the trail for some hours around noon.
Length of activity, difficulty:
Length about 4 km (the eager ones will do it more than once). Parking lot and "Gasthaus" also available. A second trail shorter and still easier is nearby. Admission to the trails is for free, donation requested.
For people wanting a bit of instruction, John can give a short introduction to the technique of cross-country skiing. For kids there is also a slope for sleding behind the Gasthof.
Meeting point and ending point:
Parking lot of Gasthof "Am Gscheid" (at St. Ägyder Gschaid, opposite of Göllerloipe):
Meeting time: 10.00 am
Ending time: End of our sports activities probably between 3 and 4 o'clock, end of trip depends on our social drink afterwards.
Driving Insructions:
Vienna - Westautobahn A1 - St. Pölten, exit Süd - (direction to Mariazell) - Lilienfeld - Freiland - St. Ägyd am Neuwalde - St. Ägyder Gschaid. Appr. 115 km from Vienna (center).
Ägyder Gschaid is situated about 35 km northeast of Mariazell, driving time by car from Wien-Hütteldorf appr. 1 1/2 hours. So add to this the time you need by car from your home to Hütteldorf.
Car sharing:
Anybody needing or offering car sharing, please give me a call or drop me a line. I'll try to coordinate this: 0699 135 16 232, levenit@aon.at
Recommended Equipment:
Bring your own skis or rent them at the Gasthaus (€ 7 per day). Renting comprises skis, shoes and poles, but bringing along your own thin sport socks is a good idea. Clothing similar to gear for running: Not too warm, sweat absorbing, additional layer for breaks in between. Sun glasses, sun cream, thermos flask with hot drink (but Gasthaus is also nearby for a break in between). In the morning it can be mild or rather chilly.
Comments:
If the weather is very bad the trip will be cancelled. In doubt please give me a call: 0699 135 16 232
