HIKE TO DEVIN
DATE OF THE HIKE: SUNDAY, 21st of May 2006
Last year about the same time I offered a hike along the MARCH RIVER on the KLEINE KARPATEN in Slovakia. This year I will repeat it again for those who haven't seen it or would like to see the colorful area again.
The area is really very beautiful, especially in spring. Most of the plants growing on this mountain exist normally only in alpine zones. Why nature shows its beauty close to the border of Austria so different and impressive could be the climate of the March and Danube Rivers.
The March flows into the Danube and where they come together, stands the newly renovated oldest castle in Slovakia.
See also the following page in English: www.castles.sk , click in the MAP on Bratislava, click once more on Bratislava, scroll down and click on the left side on the village called DEVIN. On this page you can see lots of pictures about the castle and you will find also other informations.

Don't forget your passport!
****I WILL BE IN SIMMERING ABOUT 09:15 MINUTES BEFORE. THE TRAIN WILL LEAVE FROM THERE AT 09:34.****
You can also come to the station Erzherzog Karl Strasse. From there the train will leave at 09:42.
TICKETS: Last year it was still very difficult to get a cheap ticket but the system has changed and now we can travel with an EUREGIO TICKET from Vienna to Bratislava and back home. Even we don't use the same way back home by train we can use the same ticket.
So, if you have a VORTEILSCARD you can go to Bratislava over Marchegg (A) and back through Kittsee (A) for 9 €. Without a VORTEILSCARD you will pay 14 €. We can also use the bus from the castle in direction centre of Bratislava and back to the trainstation.
YOU WILL FIND THE EUREGIO TICKET ON THE OEBB-TICKET-MACHINE. I CAN HELP YOU TO PRINT IT OUT.
Our hike will begin at the trainstation Devinska Nova Ves and we will walk over the THEBENER KOGEL until Devin (Theben). Then we will visit the huge castle. This will take about 3-4 hours. Afterwards, we will go with a public bus to Bratislava.
YOU don't need to change money for this bus as last year, because the Euregio-ticket includes the local busses, too.
From Bratislava we will go back by train from another trainstation. You have the possibility to go back home from there every hour: 15:40, 16:40, 17:40 over Kittsee.
-----------------
Bring a wind and rain-jacket, good sport-shoes with rubber-soles, drink, food for lunch and a loaded mobile phone with you. We will visit in Bratislava either a restaurant or a coffee-house.
Remember your passport!
(As I know from past visits, the customs officer will accept no excuses!)
