Two-day hike Gosaukamm
(Dachsteingebirge, Salzburg/Oberösterreich)

Description:
A two-day hike around Gosaukamm, a mountain ridge beside Dachstein. Our normal route on the first day is most of the time going up gradually with views to Gosausee and Dachstein. After Steiglpaß we descend a bit to Hofpürglhütte (stay overnight). On sunday our normal route is going around Bischofsmütze and Großer Donnerkogel to Stuhlalm and Gablonzerhütte. This route is rather level with two huts and great panoramic views. Back to Gosausee on foot or by cable car (last departure at 5.30 p.m.).
On the second day as variant a route via the summit Großer Donnerkogel.

Route:
1st day: Gosausee (933m) - Steiglpaß (2018m) - Hofpürglhütte (1705m). Stay overnight.
2nd day: Hofpürglhütte (1705m) - Stuhlalm (1446m) - Gablonzerhütte (1550m) - Gosausee (933m). From Gablonzerhütte to Gosausee on foot or by cable car.
VARIANT: From Stuhlalm to Gablonzerhütte via the summit Großer Donnerkogel (2055m). Great panoramic views.

Length of activity, grade of difficulty:
Normal route: B2 (middle difficulty, mountain experience and skills [surefootedness] required).
Variant Gr. Donnerkogel: H (high alpine tours).
1st day: 4 hours
2nd day: Hofpürglhütte to Gablonzerhütte: 4 hours; via Gr. Donnerkogel 6 hours;
Gablonzerhütte to Gosausee: on foot 1,5 hours, by cable car (variant) 1 hour.

Meeting point and ending point: Vorderer Gosausee, Hotel Gosausee.
Meeting time: Saturday 11.00 a.m., then lunch together. Start not later than 12.30 a.m.
Ending time: Sunday 6.00 p.m.

Car connections:
Wien - Westautobahn A1 - Exit "Regau" - Gmunden - Bad Ischl - Bad Goisern - Gosau - Vorderer Gosausee.
Appr. 300 km, appr. 4 hours (part of the route consists of low-speed roads, many roadworks on the motorway).

Equipment: Usual gear for high alpine hikes, in particular hiking boots, rain jacket, pullover, hat or cap, sun glasses, sun cream, second set of clothes, enough drinks (no water in the afternoon of first day), lunch for the summit conquerers, "Hüttenschlafsack" for stay overnight, lightweight slippers, flashlight.
