Hochwechsel (1743 m)

Description: easy hike, short steep parts, very suitable also for families with children, abt. 3 to 4 hours hiking per day. I would like to mention that this mountain is also accessible by car from Styria, just in case someone does not like to hike up and see others arriving in a motor vehicle. If the weather is nice the view is really great!

Sign-up necessary until 15th of May so that I can make the necessary reservation for overnight stay at the hut. This hike will take place in nearly any weather condition.

Route:

Mönichkirchner Schweig – Hallerhaus – Steinerne Stiege - Niederwechsel – Hochwechsel

Overnight at Wetterkoglerhaus

Cost for Lager ÖAV member € 6,--, others € 12,--, breakfast € 4,--.

There are a few rooms for 2 persons available at € 9,-- for ÖAV members and € 18,-- for others, all prices per person.

You need in any case a “Hüttenschlafsack” (e.g. cover of a quilt) and there are “Stockbetten” as well in the Lager as in rooms.

Next morning we walk down across Vorauer Schwaig to Mönichkirchner Schweig

Possibility for lunch

Then either walk down or scoot (cool!) down the 2, 5 km to Mönichkirchen.

Big scooters can be rented; children over 12 may go on their own, children below that age together with an adult, helmets available. Price: adults € 4,--, children € 3,50. Reduction for groups of 10 persons or more.

Car Connections:

A2 Südautobahn direction Graz, exit Edlitz, Wechsel panorama street B54 to Mönichkirchen. Totally 90 km from Vienna. Please arrange car sharing amongst the group members – maybe the best way is to send an e-mail to the whole list if you need or can offer car sharing.

Equipment:

Usual hiking equipment e.g. hiking boots, raincoat, pullover, drinking bottle, snacks if you like, you can get food at the hut too, sun cream, sun glasses, cap or hat, slippers, the Hüttenschlafsack, flashlight, toilet articles.
