Rax – Proposal for 1-day trip (various routes)

 

Description:

Starting from a height of 1070 meters, in about 2 hours time it is possible for everybody to reach via a comfortable trail Karl-Ludwighaus (1804 m): beautiful landscape and view to surroundings. Back the same route: 1 ½ hours approx.

In addition:

Another ½ hour, and you are over a very comfortable path (grass most of the time) at the peak (Heukuppe, 2007 m)

Variations:

A longer route to Ludwighaus via Waxriegel and Predigtstuhl. OR:

Via a not too difficult „Klettersteig“ to Ludwighaus (only for people used to „Klettersteig“!).

 

Climbing:

I am not an expert in that but I think at the southern side of Predigtstuhl it should be possible.

 

 

Proposal for the day:

Meeting at Preiner Geschaid / parking lot 9.00 a.m., then walking together to Waxriegelhaus (1361 m). From there one group could take the short route to Ludwighaus („Schlangenweg“), stay there for some time, maybe taking lunch, some perhaps going on to the summit.

A second group could take the longer route, a third one could climb.

Meeting all together from ...? p.m. to ...? at Waxriegelhaus, then returning together to Preiner Gschaid.

(Times for Waxriegelhaus we shall fix together in the morning after meeting at Preiner Gschaid, since we know by then, when everybody wants to return and if by car or train)

Informal meeting at Ludwighaus in between may occur.

 

 

Attention! In October up in the mountains it could be very cold or perhaps we meet the first snow or ice in this autumn, so take even winter clothes with you! Some layers for variation is a good idea.

 

How to get there by car: (2 hours max.)

Südautobahn, at Knoten Seebenstein (soon after Wiener Neustadt) leave for direction Semmering (Schnellstraße S 6), then take exit Gloggnitz,

then Gloggnitz – Reichenau – Preiner Gschaid (parking lot).

 

 

How to get there by public transport (train and bus):

Vienna – Rax

Train connection:

6.58   Wien Südbahnhof (train „Egger-Lienz“)

7.04        Wien-Meidling

7.30        Wiener Neustadt. Change to:

7.40        Train to „Mürzzuschlag“

...      Payerbach-Reichenau. Change to:

Bus to „Preiner Gschaid“ (Bus is waiting for train)

9.00   arrival Preiner Gschaid

 

Rax – Vienna

15.00/17.00 Bus from Preiner Gschaid to Payerbach-Reichenau. (/ means „or“)

15.54/17.54 Payerbach-Reichenau: train to Vienna

16.25/18.25 Wiener Neustadt

 (optional: change in Wiener Neustadt to IC-train to Vienna. Attention! Only some minutes for changing, so better run!)

16.31/18.31 Wiener Neustadt

(16.56/18.56  Wien-Meidling)

17.02/19.02 Wien-Südbahnhof
