Event Planning Sheet!!!

Name of Event Ötscher

Date: Sat 9th Sept. to Sun 10th Sept. 2000

Description: 2-day hike, Ybbstaler Alpen, Niederösterreich/Lower Austria.
B2(see chart on General Announcement page) 
(Mittelschwere Bergwanderung, Trittsicherheit, Bergerfahrung / Mountain hike of middle difficulty, mountain experience and skills (surefootedness) required.)

Meeting point and ending point: Wienerbruck, railway station.

Meeting time: Saturday 9th September, 8.00 a.m.

Route:Wienerbruck (795m) - Ötschergräben (622m) - Ötscher (1893m) via "Rauher Kamm" - Ötscher Schutzhaus (1418m, stay overnight).

Ötscherschutzhaus - Riffelsattel (1283m) - Gemeindealpe/Terzerhaus (1626m) - Mitterbach a. Erlaufsee (789m). Back to Wienerbruck by bus, train or taxi.  

On Saturday part of the time easy climbing (without rope).

Alternative Route: for those of you who don't mind walking 6 to 8 hours per day but don't like to hike over "Rauher Kamm" (easy climbing).

Saturday: Instead of hiking to Ötscher summit via "Rauher Kamm" take the route along "Ötschergräben" and then head to Ötscherschutzhaus (all of us could meet there in the evening).

Sunday: Easy walking (only a long way to go), we could do all together.

Elevation Change, length of walk in hours/kilometers:(all figures approximatively):
Saturday:  1.300 m up, 700m down, 15 km, 8 hours.

Sunday: 900m down, 300m up, 20km, 6-8 hrs.

Car Connections: 
Wien - St. Pölten (Westautobahn), exit St. Pölten Süd, then Bundesstraße 20 via Lilienfeld - Annaberg the direction to Mariazell. Wienerbruck is appr. 15 km before Mariazell, between Annaberg and Josefsberg.

Equipment Needed:

Usual equipment for hiking at alpine regions with stay overnight at a hut. E.g.: Solid hiking shoes (withstanding some moisture), raincoat, pullover, drinking bottle, some food, suncream, sun glasses, cap or hat, perhaps light gloves, clothes for changing, slippers, inner sleeping bag (two linens or special makes), toilet bag, flashlight. Temperature at the summit can be nice or near 0 degree Celsius.

On Sunday there will be no hut during the day so bring along some food and enough drinks!

Provided the weather is fine a really rewarding trip:  Scenic trails, great vistas, beautiful landscape.
