Two Day Hike Hohe Veitsch

Character: It’s an alpine roundtour up to a popular summit in the Mürzsteger Alpen. Technically easy, but long hike (second day about 11 kms mostly downhill). For everybody who likes to do a little bit more, we`ll leave at day one our backpacks at the hut and cross over to the next summit, Turntaler Kogel. Day two we make our way up to the summit of Hohe Veitsch and walk for a long time on a plateau before we take another way back down.

Meeting point:       Saturday, August 4th at 7:30 h Schloss Schönbrunn, park entrance east (Grünbergstraße vis à vis Schönbrunner Straße)

Car Connections:       Wien – Südautobahn A2 – Exit Knoten Seebenstein – Semmering Schnellstraße S6 – turn right behind Mürzzuschlag to Veitsch / Rad – Gasthaus Radwirt

Time:       Schloss Schönbrunn, park entrance east – Gasthaus Radwirt about 2 hours

Route:       Day One:
Radwirt (795 m) – Gasthof Scheikel (1.145 m) – Graf-Meran-Haus (1.836 m)
Time:  ~ 3 hrs.       Difference in height:  + 1.040 m
Graf-Meran-Haus – Turntaler Kogel (1.610 m)- same way back
One way:  Time:  ~ 2 hrs.       Difference in height:  + 200 m / - 400 m

                        Day Two:
Graf-Meran-Haus – Hohe Veitsch (1.981 m) – Grundbauernhütte (1.451 m) – Radwirt (795 m)
Time:  ~ 41/2 hrs.       Difference in height:  + 150 m / - 1.200 m

Equipment: Usual equipment for a summer hike with a stay over night on a hut. E.g.: Solid shoes, long trousers (waterproof?), short trousers, Shirts, raincoat, sunglasses, cap, gloves, pullover, clothes for changing, sticks, sun cream, hut-sleeping bag, clothes for the night, washing bag, drinking bottle, food etc.
