Group Activities

The Alpine Club Vienna is group within Section Austria of the Österreichischer Alpenverein. You can click here to learn a little more about the OEAV organization.

Is membership in the OEAV/Section Austria required to attend the meetings? Yes and No. If you wish to be on our mailing list, and attend our monthly meetings - feel invited - you are welcome!

If you like what you see, and wish to attend one of our events, we do ask that you seriously consider membership in OEAV/Section Austria. They provide some administration for our group (see the link on the left).

However if you are curious about our group, please join us for a few meetings and then make a decision on membership. Attend a meeting to become familiar with the people of the club, as they are what the club is all about. We maintain an email list of all those interested in our group, "official" members or not.

The club has many opportunities for you to become involved and attend all types of planned outings, regardless of the sport. Benefits include map discounts, books, reduced costs for overnight stays in huts (both OEAV and partner organizations), various equipment offers and specialized insurance for each member (see link at left).

To join the OEAV/Section Austria, just click on the link to the left (or here) and it will take you to the membership form which we have translated into English. Just fill out the form, submit it, and they will be in contact with you. In the meantime, you can for help with this if you need it.

If you are currently a member of the OEAV and don't care where your membership is, I highly suggest you and we will transfer your membership to Section Austria, Alpine Club Vienna or as we were known in the past - The English Group.

Please consider this, as our standing in the OEAV relies on our official membership. If you do want to stay a member of your section and not join OEAV/Section Austria, please feel invited to attend our little group – just let us know so we don't keep asking!
