Mittagstein - cancelled due to wildfire on 13 November 2021

Mittagstein - Knoferleben -  Eng

Unmarked trail to a rocky summit of Mittagstein from Hirschwang and der Rax. It quickly became one of my favourites in the area - also because of spendid views into Hollental and to Schneeberg. Makes for a nice late season hike - not too long but with great views. The trail is mostly in forest, often a bit steep, with some easy scrambling towards the summit - surefootedness is a must but no climbing skills or special equipment needed. We will continue from the summit to Knoferleben and from there on a marked trail through Eng back to Payerbach train station.

Bring snacks / sendwich lunch and fluids, we will ahve a refreshment break at the summit. This is the last weekend Knoferleben hut is open and we can get a meal / kuchen and drinks there before we head back to Payerbach.

Depending on the conditions small crampons (groedel) can be useful and I recommend to take them as well as hiking poles and gaters.

3G rules apply, don't forget to bring the proof of vaccination/test for the hut.

In case of bad weather the hike can be postponed to the next day / another weekend or cancelled at discretion of the organiser.
