Types of Activities

Group Activities

There are two general catagories of activities, LIGHT and SERIOUS. This would include our hiking, ski touring, biking, and climbing activities along with any other that might be planned. We usually try to plan at least two activities a month; at least one Light and one Serious. Before joining in on an activity classified as Serious, be sure and find out what skill levels and equipment might be required, and be sure you are adequately prepared and able.

Light Activities

We often join each other for casual hikes/outings on a "friends inviting friends" basis. Membership in the Austrian Alpine Federation(OEAV) is not required for the first outing, but generally after one or two events we would expect a person interested in the club to formally join the OEAV, and membership is required for the Serious activities. The full benefits of membership are explained on other pages. Some characteristics of Light activities are:

  • Three or Four Hours Maximum.
  • Children are encouraged to come.
  • No liability assumed, but events will not require advanced skills nor pose any danger.
  • The goal is to provide a nice afternoon or morning, often more cultural than athletic.
  • Signing up for an event will be an issue only when it helps us organize (number of participants, limited travel arrangements, etc.).

Serious Activities

  • Sign-up will be required.
  • Reservations will be made as needed.
  • Gear Requirements will be explained prior to event.
  • Route Planning will be mandatory and in some detail.
  • Group Organizer must feel Comfortable of an individuals skills and abilities.
  • Membership in OEAV will be required. Further info can be found on the Membership Pages
  • Signing up for an event will required, and attendance at the monthly meeting prior to the event is highly suggested, to meet the organizer and ask any questions.
  • Note that questions of "How difficult is it" are rather hard to answer. Look to the code sheet to help you decide on the level of abilities required.

Although the group organizes and plans the outing, we still would like to keep the "friends inviting friends" atmosphere.  We recognize our responsibility to make our outing safe and enjoyable but assume no professional liability.  Frankly, this group is voluntary and we are not paid for this.

For professionally guided tours, we would be happy to help anyone (member or nonmember, group or  individual) arrange something with the OEAV or Section Austria.
